The artwork contained in Santa Monica, is a compilation of work derived from a project developed by Crussell Fine Arts as a democratic means in search of art for Bloomingdales new store in Santa Monica, California. Close to 1,100 pieces of art from some 400 artists living or working throughout Southern California were presented to Bloomingdales for review. The search was open to any and all artists no matter their experience or representation. The artist’s identities were concealed during the process until Bloomingdale’s made their final selections to purchase work for their new Santa Monica stores permanent collection.
From the submitted works Crussell Fine Arts selected 187 of the most outstanding pieces for the Santa Monica book and this website that reflects the theme of the West Coast, the city of Santa Monica and the Southern California culture.
Following the publication of this book Crussell Fine Arts organized an exhibition of 50 selected pieces to appear at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Ana, California titled “Santa Monica – The Art of Summer”.
