Crussell Fine Arts would like to thank all the artists who participated in our Bloomingdales Open Call. We received over 1100 pieces of art from 362 artists throughout Southern California and we must say "You out did yourselves". The work submitted was outstanding and we are very proud to present your entries to Bloomingdales for consideration.
Over the next few months we will be using this page to make updates about the open call so check back from time to time. Please know, due to the large amount of participants we are unable to answer every question by email so this page will act as our link to notify you about all the current information.
Also, please know that this Open Call is not a standard open call for art that will be immediately juried and displayed as a show. Bloomingdales is currently knee deep in the construction process of their new store and will be moving through various stages of construction, interior design and product installation over the next few months to meet their projected August 2010 opening. So please be patience with their process.
With that said it is important to know that even after the store opens and Bloomingdales adjusts to their new surroundings the need for additional art may exist. So do not consider the final short list the final word. There may be a need for additional art in the coming months.
Below you will find our updates. Please read all the information before contacting us with your question. In many cases, if we have not answered your question below then we do not have the answer as yet ourselves.

Update June 2, 2010
- We have a FINAL Second Phase Short List.
- If you were short listed in this second phase we have contacted you by now.
- Bloomingdales selected 17 pieces from 10 artists for this second phase. They asked for additional information about each piece and artist last night which we forwarded to them first thing today.
- They are making another presentation today to the next level of management, the third level we believe, for the final selections and we hope to know the outcome soon.
- We will be meeting with them next week on site discussing the art selected, framing and installation details.
- With that said we would like everyone to know that there could be additions possibilities in the future for Bloomingdales to ask for additional pieces of art. We first got involved with Bloomingdales in Manhattan early last year and placed 12 pieces of art in their 60th Street Flag Ship store which has been there for years. So we dont rule out future opportunities to place additional pieces of art in the Santa Monica location.

Update June 1, 2010
- We now have the final Short List. This includes all entries.
- If you were short listed we have contacted you by now through email.
- 42 pieces from 28 artists were selected by Bloomingdales for the final short list.
- A total of 1035 pieces of art from 363 artists were submitted to the Open Call.
- Bloomingdales is currently reviewing the final short list and will be advising us of which pieces they would like to see in person.
- The Second Phase of the short list process will be to allow Bloomingdales to view the original piece of art in its final form. Many times reproductions of work appear different than the original piece of art. Bloomingdales will be making their final selections after viewing the originals.
- If your have been short listed please be prepared to deliver your art in a reusable container to Orange County that will protect the piece from damage during shipping and storage. There may be a period of time that the final selected pieces are in storage prior to the stores completion.

Update May 30, 2010
- If you submitted work to the Open Call and have never received a "Thank you" conformation email please let us know.
- We understand that there have been a number our mails that have gone directly to spam accounts so some artists are not receiving them. Please continue to check in here for updates.
- We did complete logging in all the late entries that arrived as of May 24th and have forwarded them to Bloomingdales.
- We are still waiting for a final shortlist from Bloomingdales which will include all the late entries that were received after May 1st.
- We do know that our Bloomingdales contacts are reviewing the current short list with upper management. The current short list was selected from all the work that arrived by May 1st.

Update May 26, 2010
- We now have a Short List.
- If you were short listed we have contacted you by now through email.
- There were a total of 1,032 pieces of art submitted from 362 artists.
- Bloomingdales has asked us not to reveal the names of the short listed artists or show images of the work.
- These 42 pieces will be passed on to the Bloomingdales upper management for an additional short listing process.
- We do not know how many pieces will be required for the store upon completion.
- If your submission was received on time by May 1, 2010 and your packet was complete you were included in the first round of review for this short listing. If your packet was late or incomplete you were not included in this first phase of review.
- Bloomingdales is now reviewing all the late / incomplete entries and will notify us if they would like to include any of these submission in their current short list.
- Those short listed artists will be contacted at that time.
- We should have a final short list in a few weeks and will let everyone know as soon as we can.

Update May 17, 2010
- We believe to have all the submission including those that came in at the end of last week. If you have not received a "Thank you" email from us telling you that we received your packet please let us know.
- If we continue to receive submission after today we will be sure to include them for review.
- We will be completing the processing for all the submissions today.
- We hope to have a final "Short List" from Bloomingdales by June 1st.
- If you are short listed we will be contacting you by email or phone. Bloomingdales has asked us to keep and names and images confidential at this time so we will not be listing the short listed artists on this site.

Update May 8, 2010
- We are currently processing all the submissions. Some information from some artists was missing. We have contacted those artist by email or phone and requested their information
- We will be presenting your work to Bloomingdales by June 1, 2010 for consideration of the first phase short list.

Update May 4, 2010
- You should have received a Thank You email from us indicating the receipt of your submission.
- Some email address were not legible. We did our best guess but several messages bounced back. If you did not receive an email from us thanking you for your submission please contact us.
