My paintings are manifestations of history and personal experience in conjunction with my fascination of visual representations of biological and geographical mapping. I use specific visual and conceptual constructs that I predetermine as a starting point. While I set out with a specific structure and idea I encourage the opportunity for the unexpected. In fact, I rely on serendipity. In doing so, I continually attempt to strike a balance between structure and chaos. It is important to me that my work is ambiguous enough to allow the viewers to interpret it according to their own experience and knowledge. My distinct mark making evolves into a recognizable language within the context of my paintings, creating a visual dialogue between art and the viewer.
