My goal as an artist is ideally to bring about a change in social consciousness concerning particular groups in society today.  In my work, I am exploring the stereotypes of modern day subcultures, specifically the S&M community and homosexuality.  Within these broad categories are a few aspects on which I am currently focusing.  I feel that people who participate in these aspects of life have generally been forced to keep that part of their identity suppressed or hidden because of the sentiments of mainstream society.  So part of my work is dealing with the portrayal of intimate moments that occur within these lifestyles.  The other part of my work is playing off of the stereotypes and preconceived notions that mainstream society associates with these lifestyles.  In various media including video, alternative photography, and installation, I am creating work that at first glance seems to justify these stereotypes, but then reveal another aspect of the action that casts the stereotypes into doubt.  I am currently using the process of photo-chemical painting with my photographs.  This serves not only to create an original one-of-a-kind artwork, but also to add multiple layers of meaning to the image.
